12 Monkeys
I liked it. I want to see it again -- I don't think I caught everything the first time.
Some people didn't like the casting, but I think it worked pretty well.
Broken Arrow
This was a fun movie to see on the big screen. Rather moist in parts, but not always gratuitous
violence. Big, loud, full of action and great casting.
Chain Reaction
This has got to be the pokey-est action flick I've ever seen. Interesting premise for the movie,
but it's a bit silly in parts. And even sillier in other parts... and I don't mean silly like Monkees
re-runs. Rent it and do the MST3K thing -- it'll keep ya awake for the "surprise" ending. For those
in the know, it is as exciting as the game show of the same name.
The Crow
Two part review here.
Part One, for those who miss the point when confronted with something that subtly interfaces
with the more nebulous regions of your existence:
Cool movie. Guy brought back from the dead to dispatch those responsible for him going there.
Lots of justifiable violence and loud music. Yeah, I bought the soundtrack... it's full of great
bitchin' tunes!
Part Two, for those who aren't in the first category:
I can't say enough about this film. It illuminates the corners of your psyche, and it
echoes in you long after the credits roll. Rent it, and invite a small group of people over
(those who you can be open with) and share what it does to you.
The Crow: City of Angels
When watching this movie, don't think of The Crow. They tried too hard to avoid anything
that would remind you of the first movie, and didn't spend enough effort on making this movie
as effective as the first one was. There just wasn't enough character development. I really wish that they
did not run away from the fundamental issues dealt with so very well in The Crow -- it left some
potentially powerful scenes feeling a bit hollow. It is a well-crafted movie, and definitely
worth renting. The casting was great -- look for Ian Dury and Iggy Pop being themselves.
From Dusk Till Dawn
Okay, let's get one thing clear here -- I rented it, I didn't pay
full price, and I got my money's worth. It's moderately silly at times,
moist in parts (ha,ha), but a good "mindless flick". Rent it with a bunch
of friends and do the MST3K thing.
The Ghost in the Shell
I can't say enough about this film. It has the best cinematography
I have ever seen in an animated movie. Yes, it's Japanimation, but raised to an art form.
Rent it -- you won't be disappointed.
Independence Day
The casting was OK. They didn't miss a single kitschy chiche item; although they did replace the
"young child does stupid thing which endangers at least one lead character" with a dog. How many
silly things can you spot? I wasn't disappointed with the movie, because I just knew what it would
end up like. It's fun and silly -- rent it with friends and do the MST3K thing.
The Island of Dr. Moreau
I have never been to a movie with such a vocal, vicious and violent audience. The movie itself was
almost too good, the suspension of disbelief almost complete in parts. I suppose some people didn't appreciate
that. This was a disturbing movie for all the right reasons. Rent it with an open mind, but do rent it.
Jurassic Park
OK, neat special effects and casting that worked. I liked it. I liked the book better.
The Long Kiss Goodnight
It's a fun movie! I usually find Gena Davis as rather boring, but she did a pretty good job in
this flick. Even the young child was not incredibly irritating! Rent it just to see Toronto and surrounds
doing a great job of impersonating New Jersey and Virginia -- do they have Honest Ed's down there?
Mars Attacks!
I loved this movie! I've seen it at least twice by the time you read it (writing this up made me crave another
viewing). You'll love this movie! I went out and bought a VCR so I'll be ready when it comes out on tape... this will
definitely become a "house movie" around here!
Men in Black
Yes! I gotta get me one of these! It was a great movie. A little predictable, but still a great
movie. It will be a great addition to my video shelf.
Mission: Impossible
Very Cool Soundtrack!! Gotta love this digital sound thing -- but watch out for the
explosions! Great action flick.
Scream
A well-crafted movie from Wes Craven... I don't think they missed a single stereotype. The teen
angst bits got tiresome after a while, but the scary stuff was scary. Rent it
just to see The Fonz as a mild-mannered school principal.
Star Trek: First Contact
Not bad for a Hollywood movie. Not bad for a Star Trek movie. Definitely some shining moments, but also
some pretty lame bits. Nice to see they didn't rely completely on gee-whiz technology and special effects
to keep the interest up.
Star Wars
The new and improved version is reviewed here. The technological advancements did do something
to increase enjoyability, but general consensus is that the new stuff added was, well, it was there.
I admit that I found it enjoyable -- after all, I hadn't seen the original version.
Twister
Amazing! The effects are stupendous, acting good, but I didn't see anything that even
closely resembled the game.

Care Bears: the movie
Not as long as I breathe.
ET
Can't stand cuteness.
Forrest Gump
Will not condone the abuse of the past for the future's enjoyment.
