  * visual arts

The visual arts covers a very wide range of things, so I've broken the main category down into smaller parts: big-screen moving pictures, small-screen moving pictures, and nice stuff made by living creatures. Eventually, I will add two more categories: photographs and electronic artwork. There are also catch-all categories that deal with the things I refuse to see and those that I wish I hadn't see - the lists may horrify some, but many of you will nod your head in agreement. I've combined animé, foreign-language, and plain-old English items in these lists.

The big-screen moving pictures category covers my all-time favourite movies. I didn't bother dividing them up further based on why they made the list. This is, of course, a very small sample of my ultimate list of faves; it's the list of most influential to me at this point in my life.

Small-screen moving pictures contains the rare few television programmes/series that I actually liked to watch. Some of these will probably never see the light of day again, but I would highly recommend checking them out if you happen to see one listed.

Nice stuff made by living creatures is a bit of a catch-all category. It includes painting, jewellery, drawings, sculpture, lithography, architecture, even typography. It'll probably be split up into smaller categories as time progresses.

The next category, things that I will never willingly experience, is one of my favourite groups. These visual items made me cringe merely from the promotional excesses prior to its release. Most of the films listed were super-duper-extra-loudly-hyped... that's a sure way to keep me and my money away from the theatres. I refuse to be pushed to see something. Period.

The last category, things I wish I didn't see, is a dumping ground for those visual things that caused me to experience an unacceptable level of strain. The remake of "The Island of Doctor Moreau" isn't on this list because I really liked the movie. However, it was a stressful experience, as the audience was openly hostile throughout the presentation, and as I left the theatre I had to dodge the fistfights, cops, and blood-spattered entryway.
