Pricing Policies at AMG

Due to the nature of long-term projects, such as the production of a newsletter, bulletin or other repeating job, the pricing policy is slightly different from that of a flyer or brochure. Press releases and other forms that use a master template for production also fall under the category of long-term projects.

This approach to the production of newsletters and other repeating jobs is a little unusual, but our clients have commented that it gives them a much better sense of what is involved, what they're paying for, and why. Unfortunately, this approach does make it difficult to pick up the phone and, within two minutes, say "yes, a 12-page monthly newsletter will cost you $__". Well, we could do that, but our price would not be the best we could offer.

The information below is pretty dry reading, but it is included so you have a better idea of how our pricing system works.

--------------

Initial Design of Newsletter

This includes time spent in consultation with the customer, designing style(s) for consideration, doing the finishing touches to final style chosen, and creation of a master template for the newsletter. (These are one-time-only charges.)

Standard Newsletter Production

For newsletters (and other repeating jobs), AMG uses a complexity rating system for page production charges. After consultation with the customer, we will set a "base" price-per-page that would represent the bare minimum production level that would be required...this usually includes spell-checking, formatting, and fitting of text onto pages and around graphics. (We have found that this system works best for everyone concerned, since it gives a basic $ per issue for budgeting purposes and allows us to budget our time to best fit the schedule ahead.)

If a page ends up requiring additional design work, or a more complex layout than usual, the complexity level would increase, and the price-per-page would increase as well, as outlined on the price schedule agreed upon before production begins. There are usually three "increased complexity" price-per-page levels.

Production of new graphic elements, photograph scanning, and creation of "filler" items are charged for at a flat rate of $35.00 per hour. Any new graphic or "filler" item created is charged for once only, and is kept on file for re-use in a future edition.

If copy for newsletter is not provided as a computer text file, the extra charge for entering the text is either included in the base price-per-page, or is charged for at a flat rate of $25.00 per hour.

If it is preferred, we can bill for newsletters at a flat rate of $35.00 per hour (with text entry at $25.00 per hour as outlined above). We can bill at a flat per-issue rate if you wish.

English & French Issues

If a newsletter is done strictly in French, the price-per-page and complexity ratings will be 30% higher than if the same work was done in English only.

If a newsletter is completely bilingual, the price-per-page and complexity ratings will be 50% higher than if the same work was done in English only.

A minimum of 48 hours is necessary to create a proof when French or bilingual work is required!

Proof Times and Deadlines

AMG strives to serve its customers as promptly as possible. This includes all of the people involved in production, too. We have a VERY healthy respect for DEADLINES!!

We try to maintain some semblance of office hours, but we are fairly flexible when it comes to working non-traditional hours.

We like to sit down with our customers and determine a timetable that works for all of us -- from the person (or persons) assembling the text, to AMG, to the person responsible for final production of the newsletter. Since timing can be critical in this just-in-time society, we urge our customers to have copy ready for us on schedule, or to let us know when it will be ready.

We have usually been able to get a proof for basic work out within 24 hours. However, newsletters being the complex beasts they are, it is difficult to get a proof out quite that fast. If it is required, we have a "Guaranteed 24-hour (Rush) Proof" available at a 25% surcharge to the usual price of the work. Or, if it REALLY has to be done yesterday, we have a "Guaranteed 12-hour (Overnight Rush) Proof" available at a 50% surcharge to the usual rate if given 24 hours warning, or at a surcharge of 70% without that warning.
